Quimper Cornouaille guided tour – Tour n°2
Discover the Bretagne Sailing Valley©Presentation
At the heart of a living area of 270,000 inhabitants, Cornouaille hosts 3 sectors of excellence:
- maritime
- tourism
- and food
Competition sailing is a major component of the naval market. Behind the riders, there are sailing teams (Mer Concept-Macif, Kairos, Agitated Sea …) and construction sites (CDK Technologies, Pogo-Structures, ADH Inotec …) specialized in the construction and development of all racing yachts : from Mini 6.50, to Ultim trimarans.
A ecosystem of services and dedicated research and development gravitates around these companies: rigging, calculations, communication, … This sector of excellence is a driving force for the nautical industry in Cornouaille, which also produces cruise ships.
On the training side…
Cornouaille hosts the « Pôle Finistère Course au Large ». Based in Port la Forêt, this national center of excellence trains riders (Imoca, Figaro …). Sailors come from all over France and abroad to benefit from this unique management in Europe.
Major nautical events are organized, such as the Grand Prix Guyader in Douarnenez Bay, the Transat AG2R La Mondiale Concarneau, or the Wave Games at the Torch: the best windsurfers, kitesurfers, surfers and paddlers will be reunited on this site emblematic of board sports in October 2018.
The ocean racing sector is supported by institutional actors, in particular:
- The Department of Finistère and Finistère 360, very active with the « Pôle d’Excellence Finistère Course au Large »
- The Technopole Quimper-Cornouaille which supports innovation in the maritime sector and is relay for Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique (Sea innovation R&D cluster)
- Quimper Cornouaille Développement, an economic development agency in Cornouaille, a partner of the Yacht Racing Forum for its members, the communities of towns and cities that accompany their companies, and support nautical events
